Weather can turn from good to bad quickly in the winter months, so it’s important to be prepared at all times. Here are some tips for ensure both you and your vehicle is prepared for driving in the winter:

  • Keep your vehicle well-maintained, ensuring you complete regular vehicle checks and it has been serviced and has an up to date MOT

  • Check your vehicle battery. During the winter months your car battery is put under more strain because of the low temperatures and increased usage of the heaters and light, so it’s important to ensure it’s working well.
  • Ensure you have anti-freeze in your windscreen washer and radiator
  • Make sure you have an ice scraper and de-icer in your vehicle
  • Prepare a winter safety kit so if you run in to trouble you have all the equipment you need. This should include a torch, a small shovel blankets and food and water supplies.
  • Ensure that ice, snow and condensation has been completely cleared from your vehicle before you start driving
  • Check your route before setting off
  • Allow plenty of time to get to your destination
